John, we recommend Sikkens stain products that are generally used for high end log homes. The CETOL SRD is a great product and comes in many colors. You should stain the top of the hot tub lip with a small brush being careful not to let the stain run into the inside of the hot tub. NEVER stain the inside. We usually use two coats. This should last you a couple of years depending on the location of the hot tub relative to the weather. I suggest for best results you follow the directions on the can of stain. Also one other thing to mention, staining should be done before the tub is filled and allowed to dry according to the instructions before you fill the tub.
